Ad hoc, probably an education-targeting way of distributing application: to up to 100 authorized iPhones
Apple keeps thinking of hte iPhone as the new tools for Enterprises which can distribute application to their employees. They authorize iPhones within their enterprise and then create applications that just run on those phones. The apps can be distributed just through their intranet.
Otherwise it will require Wifi or via iTunes
Application less than 10 MB in size can be distributed via phone connection in 62 countries
Free application will really be FREE: no charge to anyone
For the first time Apple gives figures about the way revenues will be shared:developer sets the price and keep 70%, FairPlay DRM-protected wrapped

Scott ends his demo of iPhone simulator by quoting comments from some companies about the iPhone 2.0. Then some developers come on the stage is SEGA!

Of course not everyone is as talented as Scott, but for sure developers will enjoy such tools
In less than 10 minutes, Scott could create a fully functional geo-localization application already functional for the iPhone
He keeps showing how easy it is to build such application and especially great UI. While developing such tools, it does not have to worry about the iPhone orientation as the device takes care of hte display and rearrange all elements
Scott Forstall demoes how to construct an UI in Interface Builder. then goes on with the creation of a basic Cocoa Touch application called Nearby Friends
Such as CoreOS, Core Services, Media, Cocoa Touch (same OS X kernel on iPhone that forms the basis of Mac OS X)
